Pen and ink on bristol board, measuring 15x23". Fine or better condition, bit of residue to top margin from missing syndicate tag, small soil spot to bottom right corner, tape residue to verso. Original comic strip art by Rudolph Dirks who originated "The Katzenjammer Kids" in 1897 for William Randolph Hearst. After a series of legal squabbles with Hearst, Dirks joined the United Features Syndicate and continued the Katzenjammer's adventures under the title "The Captain and the Kids." The present example, dated July 26, 1942, bears all of the classic hallmarks of Dirks' anarchic creation, including Teutonic terrors Hans and Fritz committing acts of mayhem, only to have their hides tanned by an unamused Captain. A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact [email protected] . Consignments welcome for PBA's December 2021 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera.
