Emmert" in pencil, lower left corner. Tipped to later paper. The words "Paso d. agua" appear in pencil on the verso. Paul Emmert (1825-1867) was a Swiss-born artist who emigrated to the U.S. in his twenties. He travelled around North and South America. He came to California in 1850 and and shortly afterwards left for Hawaii and settled in Honolulu. He opened a wood-engraving and lithography shop there in 1853. There is currently an exhibition of his Hawaiian views at the Honolulu Academy of Arts (through July 17th). Lot Amendments Condition: Fine. Item number: 160210
