Originally purchased by Mr. Tony Dow aka Wally Cleaver 1970 PORSCHE 914/4 Chassis No. 4702910254 Black with black interior Engine: air-cooled flat four, 1,679cc, 80bhp at 4,900rpm; Gearbox: Porsche five-speed manual; Suspension: front, MacPherson telescopic shock strut and wishbone, rear, independent, coil springs; Brakes: discs all round. Left hand drive. The 914 Porsche was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1969 and became available in the US in the Spring of 1970. Priced at just under $3500 for the four cylinder car, an extra $200 bought the Appearance Group option which meant a chrome bumper front and rear, as well as chrome trimmed vinyl covering for the roof pillars. Oddly though, buyers on the West Coast had to pay an extra $100 for the package! The car was built by coachbuilder Karmann in collaboration with Porsche and VW. Initial public reaction was muted, nevertheless sales were steady and reliable, which were attributes of the car itself. Handling was good and with the removable roof (fiberglass) section out, the car promised open air motoring in safe style. The Porsche engineers themselves confirmed that the handling allowed for better cornering than the 911 equivalent. The flat-four air cooled engine, with fuel injection on the US models, provided for ample performance and spirited touring. This car was purchased new from the Porsche agents in Encino, CA by Mr. Tony Dow in 1970, famous for his star role as Wally (Wallace) Cleaver in the hit TV Series Leave It to Beaver . The car has been in the same family ownership since new. It was repainted in the 1980's and has now begun to show some age with a few paint cracks and microblistering visible. The original interior is also showing age, although seat covers have been fitted. The car has the optional chrome bumpers and gold script lettering. The Porsche will likely need some recommissioning before regular everyday use again. Presently sporting the fun registration 'Hi Huney', it comes with almost all of its documents through the years and various invoices, as well as its interesting 'All American Family' history that includes a handwritten note from Mr. Dow confirming his ownership! WITHOUT RESERVE
