OTTO GUTFREUND (1889–1927) A Drawing of Frigolet and Letters Starting price: 100 000 CZK (3 774 EUR) Hammer price: 320 000 CZK (12 075 EUR) Description dimensions: 22,2 x 34,5 cm (h x w) period: 1916, France, Saint Michel de Frigolet This is a concept for three letters Otto Gutfreund wrote during his internment at Saint Michel de Frigolet camp, which he had to translate into French and submit for censorship. The final letter is probably a letter to the minister of war, in which he expresses his incomprehension for his internment and urgently demands that steps be taken for his release and that he be allowed to remain in France after the war. The letter is accompanied by a watercolor drawing in Cubist forms, depicting a lonely figure with the inscription FRIGOLET. See Jiří Šetlík: Otto Gutfreund cesta ke kubismu, Prague, 2012, pp. 164–166. Watercolor, color pastel and pencil. Expert assessment: Professor Jiří Šetlík.
