Contemporary red half morocco, red cloth boards, gilt-lettered on front cover "Photographs of Scenes and Natives in Pacific Islands and Straits of Magellan" (hinges weak, somewhat rubbed). An extensive and striking album of topographical, ethnographical and architectural views in Fiji, New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Friendly Islands (including portraits of Queen Charlotte, King George Tewbou and Governor Tungi), Hawaii (including portraits of King Kalakawa and Queen Emma, "The Last of the Kamchameka"), Society Islands or Tahiti (including a portrait of Mrs. Brander, Chiefess of Morea, and views of bread fruit trees), Valpairiso and Straits of Magellan (including a view of a gold mining operation).
