Pair of Cary's Twelve-Inch Terrestrial and Celestial Globes J. & W. Cary, Strand, London, 1808 and 1800 Each on a mahogany tripod stand. Height 25 1/2 inches (64.8 cm), diameter of globe 12 inches (30.5 cm). C Property from the Collection of Jerome M. and Rhoda S. Fischer
Terrestrial with previous restorations, separation and discoloration along junctures of gores, discoloration, spotting and inpainting to much of the Northern Hemisphere, repairs and inpainting along the equator, 1 1/2 inch repair and inpainting to central east coast of South American, below Espirito Santo horizon ring with fading, spotting and cracking along lines of construction underneath, one quadrant support lacking a bracket, two brackets replaced, formerly fitted with a compass, old marks and scratches to legs. Celestial with previous restorations, now with spotting and yellowing to varnish and separation along gores especially to Northern Hemisphere, several small areas of repairs and inpainting, horizon ring with rading and restorations and inpainting; stand with one leg loose, formerly fitted with a compass, old marks and scratches.
