Etched frontispiece, 11 full-page etched illustrations of the competitors by GIOVANNI BATTISTA MANSELLA, 3 large folding etched plates, that of the theater by PAOLO AMATO (two horizontal repaired tears crossing image on the first folding plate, the last with long repaired tear and some very pale dampstaining). (Marginal wormhole through first half of volume affecting some image borders.) Rembôitage binding of contemporary vellum gilt; red cloth folding case. The work records the festive tournament held over five days in 1680 at Palermo to celebrate the marriage of CHARLES II, King of Spain and the Two Sicilies to MARIE-LOUISE D'ORLéANS. The principal nobles of Sicily, dressed in medieval-style armor, staged mock-chivalric battles in a huge wooden theater modeled on the Circus Maximus in Rome. The plates of the competitors are by Giovanni Battista Mansella, and the large folding plate of the theater is by the local artist, Paolo Amato The other two folding plates show the daily procession to the palace.
