Panciroli (Guido) Notitia dignitatum, utriusque Imperii Orientis scilicet et Occidentis ultra Arcadij Honoriique tempora…, 2 works in one with separate titles featuring large woodcut printer’s devices, engraved map of the Mediterrean (slightly creased and chipped), 106 woodcut illustrations, including topographical views, scenes of social history and war), ornaments, double column, small tear to title, some spotting and offsetting, 18th century polished calf gilt, armorial coat of arms with motto ‘Ardeo, Persevero, Spero’ of Guillaume Pavée de Vendeuvre (1779-1870) embossed to covers, marbled endpapers, lightly stained and rubbed, [Saffroy II 30476; Potthast, page 868; Graesse IV, 691; Schweiger II, 619], folio, Etienne Gamonet, Geneva, 1623. *** Geneva edition of a study by the Italian law professor (at Padua and Turin) Panciroli (1523-1599), first published 1552. It deals with the political and juridical organisation of the late Roman Empire. The second work is entitled ‘De magistratibus municipalibus’. Provenance. From the library of Guillaume Pavée de Vendeuvre, 19th-century member of Parliament and peer of France, who was also a renowned bibliophile.
