PAOLI, P.A. Antichita di Pozzuoli. [Naples]: 1768. 2° (525 x 380mm). Engraved throughout, text in Italian and Latin. Frontispiece (creased), title, dedication, 36 leaves of text, 2 leaves of index (the second with a decorative tailpiece), 66 plates (4 folding) by Giovanni Natali, Antonio Cardon, Niccolo Forillo and others after Giambattista Natali. (Occasional browning, one of the folding plates with a tear to the centre fold.) Contemporary half vellum, uncut (tears in spine). Provenance : unidentified owner's monogram (ink stamp on frontispiece); F.E.J.G. (bookplate). A fine copy of the most important collection of eighteenth-century views of Pozzuoli and its vicinity. A systematic record of the ruins, many shown for the first time: the work was issued in only small numbers and was available at the relatively high price of 15 Neapolitan ducats. Cicognara 1692 (wrongly dated); Berlin Kat. 1895.
