The first: engraved title and 20 (of 24) engraved plates by Parr after Wooton, Tillemans, and others; the second: engraved title and 6 engraved plates by Roberts after James Seymour possibly all issued. (First title-page with repaired tears in the margins, some marginal soiling, some spotting to the deckle edges and guards but the plates bright.) 19th-century half morocco, lettered in gilt up the spine, marbled endpapers (extremities rubbed). TWO RARE COLLECTIONS OF PORTRAITS OF FAMOUS RUNNING HORSES. ABPC apparently records no other copy of Roberts selling at auction in over 35 years. Parr, first published ca. 1739, is one of the earliest collections of racehorse portraits; prints are typically only found individually or in small groups and complete sets are very rare.
