Paul Nash (1899-1946) Encounter of Two Objects signed and dated 'Paul Nash/1937' (lower right) oil on canvas 15 x 20 in. (38.1 x 50.8 cm.) Nash wrote the alternative title Correlation on the back of a photograph in such a way that Encounter of Two Objects could be conceived as an upright, but it has not been reproduced thus, and photographs of the installation of the Tate 1948 exhibition show it was hung as a horizontal (see A. Causey, Paul Nash , Oxford, 1980, p. 437).
