Title: Personal archive of WWII U.S Navy officer Philip Giambruno while aboard the U.S.S. New Mexico, comprising chiefly of photographs including a photo album, plus other ephemera items Author: Giambruno, Philip Place: [California / Pacific Ocean] Publisher: Date: 1925-45 Description: Comprises: Photo album, with 160 photographs (including snapshots), many captioned in the negative, placed inside corner mounts on black paper. (Oblong) 9x13½, decorative limp leather with cutout scene of ship. * 147 loose photographs, some being photographed from humorous Navy cartoon drawings. * Sports section of The Hoist (Navy newspaper), May 4, 1945, which has Giambruno pictured as the softball team captain. * 4 different types of driver’s licenses of Giambruno. * Giambruno’s San Diego Training Station enlistment card dated October 26, 1925, signed. * Permanent Meal Pass, U.S. Naval Barracks, 1944. * U.S. Naval Training Work Leave Pass, Treasure Island, San Francisco. The photos measure from 2x3" to 11x14". Interesting collection. Photos mostly taken while onboard the U.S.S. New Mexico during WWII, of soldiers, etc. Several of the loose photos are actually dated 1925 (perhaps an earlier tour of duty by Giambruno), some taken in China (one showing a decapitation execution). Also, beaches, natives, some taken in Cuba (including two showing the stands at a baseball game), many of Philip Giambruno, etc. Philip Giambruno served four years in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. At one point he was presumed dead after the destroyer he was on (The Pillsbury) was sunk. “Thirty days later his safety was confirmed” – from newspaper clipping. Lot Amendments Condition: General wear overall, some photos with light edge wear, occasional fading, a few with short tears and/or creases, one split in two; scattered finger-soiling and other mild wear; mostly very good overall. Item number: 153650
