From the mid-1990s to 2000, he created a series of paintings of palm tree crowns in sublime and riotous color. Expressive and inviting, these paintings were often named for people or locations well-known to the artist. The present painting is from this extraordinary series and named for Alexander's friend and collaborator, Frank Gehry who, in his understated manner, once said Alexander "would rate pretty high on the hit parade."
