PETER ALEXANDER (1939-2020)Frank, 2000 acrylic on panel 48 1/4 x 53 in. 122.5 x 134.6 cm. FootnotesProvenance Peter Blake Gallery, Laguna Beach Acquired directly from the above by the present owner in 2002 Peter Alexander's work draws from the light, color and landscape of his native Los Angeles. From the mid-1990s to 2000, he created a series of paintings of palm tree crowns in sublime and riotous color. Expressive and inviting, these paintings were often named for people or locations well-known to the artist. The present painting is from this extraordinary series and named for Alexander's friend and collaborator, Frank Gehry who, in his understated manner, once said Alexander "would rate pretty high on the hit parade." (Frank Gehry on Peter Alexander . Peter Alexander's works have been exhibited widely all over the globe, including shows at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art, New York; San Diego Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and can be found in important museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and Santa Barbara Museum of Art, California.
