Venice: Joannes Rubeus Vercellensis, for Alexander Calcedonius, 13 May 1497. Early edition of the most complete Thomistic tabula of its era, in a contemporary binding. Petrus de Bergamo was a Dominican theologian at Bologna, whose published works are all concerned with Thomas Aquinas. HC 2820*; BMC V 419; BSB-Ink P-347; Bod-inc P-202; IGI 7615; Essling 914; Goff P-454; ISTC ip00454000. Super-chancery folio (320 x 214mm). 434 leaves (of 434, gathering Z bound after Y). Red capital strokes, woodcut illustration of Thomas Aquinas and several woodcut initials highlighted in red (ink burn from erased inscription on title, a few closed or repaired tears in text, light spotting). Contemporary South German blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards [EBDB w003049, Stern klein II], clasp, remains and offsetting from manuscript binding waste (without pastedowns, lacking one clasp, boards worn, sewn repair to leather on rear board). Provenance: Frankfurt, Dominicans (inscription).
