Title: Photograph of Lincoln sculpture by Haig Patigian inscribed by the sculptor Author: Patigian, Haig Place: No place [San Francisco?] Publisher: Date: 1925 Description: Original gelatin silver print photograph, 35x27 cm (13¾x10½"), framed. Overall 38x30 cm (15x11¾"). Photograph of the upper torso and head of President Abraham Lincoln, from the sculpture by Haig Patagian. Inscribed by Patagian at the lower right, "To Joe Redding From his devoted friend, Haig Patigian December, 1925). Embossed at the lower left is "Head of Lincoln Statue by Haig Patigian 1925." The sculpture itself sits now outside of San Francisco City Hall. Patigian (1876-1950) was an Armenian-American sculptor, largely self-taught. Patigian spent most of his career in San Francisco, California and most of his works are located in California. The Oakland Museum in Oakland, California, includes a large number of his works in its collection, and more can be seen in and around San Francisco City Hall. Patigian was an active member of the Bohemian Club, serving two terms as club president. He designed the Owl Shrine, a 40-foot high hollow concrete and steel structure which was built in the 1920s to have the appearance of a natural rock outcropping which happened to resemble an owl. The recipient, Joe Redding, is likely fellow San Franciscan Joseph D. Redding, also a past president of the Bohemian Club. Lot Amendments Condition: Inscription a bit faded, light wear; not examined out of frame but appears very good or better. Item number: 261351
