PICART, BERNARD. Naaukeurige Beschryving der uitwendige Godtsdienst-Plichten, Kerz-Zeden en Gewoontens van alle Volkeren der Waereldt, The Hague, Amsterdam and Rotterdam: R.C. Alberts etc. 1727-38, 6 vols. in 7, some text browned , translated from the French by Abraham Moubach. Engraved frontispiece, six letterpress titles in red and black, 223 engraved plates, many double-page, some folding, of religious and ceremonial scenes, the last plate with added color. Many of the American scenes are highly finished copies of De Bry plates. This translation not in Sabin -- [MISSISSIPPI BUBBLE]. Het groote Tafereel der Dwaasheid, Vertoonende de opkomst, voortgang en ondergang der Actie, Bubbel en Windnegotie, en Vrankryk, Engeland, en de Nederlanden, gepleegt in den Jaare MDCCXX, [Amsterdam] 1720, short marginal tear to frontispiece, one plate browned , folding engraved frontispiece, title printed in red and black, engraved portrait of John Law and 70 engraved plates and vignettes, many double-page, a few folding, including three maps. A satirical compilation of texts and caricatures relating to the scheme of John Law and the Mississippi Company for exploiting the resources of French Louisiana, and to the collapse of the "bubble" in 1720. Together 2 works in 8 vols., folio, 403 x 254mm. (15 7/8 x 10in. ) (the Tafereel 397 x 251mm. [15 9/16 x 9 7/8 in.]), similarly (though not uniformly) bound in Dutch contemporary mottled calf gilt, covers with two gilt borders and central ornamental arabesque stamps, spines gilt in eight compartments, red and black morocco labels, lower joint of vol. 1 slightly cracked, extremities rubbed .
