Title: Picturesque Beauties of Boswell Author: Rowlandson, Thomas Place: [London] Publisher: [E. Jackson and G. Kearsley] Date: 1786 Description: 20 etched plates after Thomas Rowlandson Each approximately 24.5x25 cm (9¾x10") mounted to leaves of a 19th century album, each within a hand-drawn watercolor border of pink and blue. Lacking the original title pages and contents leaves, the contents provided here in two period manuscript lists. Leaves overall 32x40 cm (12½x15¾") early half morocco and marbled boards, rebacked with earlier spine leather laid down. Scarce collection of etchings by Rowlandson, satirizing Boswell's Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides. Originally published in two parts of ten plates each. Mounted to the same leaf as the first list are two watercolor caricature sketches, very much in Rowlandson's style but the attribution unconfirmed. Lot Amendments Condition: Binding rubbed; some foxing and light staining within; very good overall. Item number: 287137
