PINE, John. The Tapestry Hangings of the House of Lords, representing the several Engagements between the English and Spanish Fleets in the memorable year MDLXXXVIII . London: 1739. 2° (540 x 370mm). Engraved title, printed dedication, 2pp. of subscribers, 24pp. of text, 5 double-page engraved charts, double-page map, and 10 double-page engraved views with centre-pieces printed in green, all within decorative borders after Lempriere and Gravelot. (3 plates with tears into illustration without loss, a few other marginal tears.) Contemporary mottled calf (slightly rubbed, rebacked with sheep). Pine's work depicting the defeat of the Armada is of considerable interest since the tapestries, deigned by H.C. Vroom and woven by Francis Spiring of Haarlem, were destroyed by fire in 1834. Berlin Katalog 1677.
