PLATTES, Gabriel (fl. 1638). A Discovery of Infinite Treasure, Hidden Since the Worlds Beginning. Whereunto all men, of what degree soever, are friendly invited to be sharers with the Discoverer . London: Printed by I.L and are to be sold by George Hutton, 1639. 4 o (176 x 123 mm). Errata leaf at end. (Title trimmed along foredge with some loss of letters, some soiling.) 19th-century blue quarter calf (lightly rubbed). FIRST EDITION of Plattes' work on the application of inventions to agriculture. "Harte calls him an original genius in husbandry who began his observations in the latter end of Queen Elizabeth's reign..." (Ferguson). Among the descriptions are references to emigration in the newly founded Plantations, a description of newly discovered agricultural machines and a new machine to grind needles. Ferguson II:207-8; STC 19998.
