PLUTARCH (?456-120). Ethica sive moralia opera . Basel: Michael Isengrin, 1554. 2° (339 x 221mm). Ruled in red throughout, printer’s device on title, one diagram, historiated initials, with the final blank. (Title very lightly browned and with one or two spots.) Contemporary limp vellum gilt, panelled on sides with a gilt arabesque centrepieces, flat spines, ruled and decorated in gilt, gilt and gauffered edges, decorated in black with a foliate design dated 1561 (lightly soiled, lacking ties). AN ATTRACTIVE CLEAN COPY of this popular work, published several times in the 16th century. It is uniformly bound with lot 41 and with similar design of the edges. The woodcut initials are partly after Holbein. Graesse V, 362; VD online 16 P3679; not in Adams and this edition not in BM STC .
