POGGIBONZI, Solomon da (Florence, Italy, early-mid 16th century)]. [ Sefer ha-Charuzim ] (rhyming dictionary). AUTOGRAPH MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER Copied by Solomon of Poggibonzi, [Italy, early-mid 16th century] Tall 4 o (280 x 200 mm). 115 leaves. Brown ink. Italian semi-cursive script. Text written in two pre-ruled columns. (Some minor staining, otherwise excellent condition.) Modern blind and gold-tooled deep blue morocco, blue paste-patterned edges, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, two additional old flyleaves at the front, on the recto of the first the later title ' Sefer ha-Charuzim ' in Italian square script. CONTENTS: Based on a similar work by Judah Porta, called Aremat Chittin , with many additions. Probably compiled by the copyist, Solomon of Poggibonzi, pawnbroker and teacher of Florence. Poggibonzi's abundant correspondence has been preserved in other manuscripts and parts of it have been published. Cf. U. Cassuto, Gli ebrei a Firenze nell'et del rinascimento (Firenze 1918) p. 334f, and S. Simonsohn, in Kovets al-Yad 6 (1966) vol. 2. On fol. 115v there is a short piece in praise of the elderly.
