Pol-Roger, Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill -Vintage 1990
12 bottles per lot
A COLLECTION OF FINE CHAMPAGNE The "Sir Winston Churchill Cuvée", the Cuvée de Prestige of the House of Pol-Roger, was created as a tribute to Sir Winston, a perfectionist in all things. The composition of the Cuvée is a secret guarded closely by the Pol-Roger family, but relies upon a formula of which its namesake would have approved. "My tastes are simple", said Sir Winston. "I am easily satisfied with the best"; it follows that the Sir Winston Churchill Cuvée should be composed of only the very best grapes, from the best vineyards (and only those from within the Champagne area under vine in Sir Winston's day), chosen for declaration in only the best vintage years. The Cuvée is consistently made in the style he preferred: robust, full-bodied, relatively mature (the "Sir Winston Churchill Cuvée" is always sold one vintage "behind" Pol Roger's regular vintage) and dominated by Pinot Noir, the classic, red-skinned grape variety which contributes the firmness and backbone of the traditional Cuvée, blending with the ethereal elegance of the white Chardonnay. Lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD) Pol-Roger, Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill -Vintage 1990 In original gift-cartons Tasting Note: Palish, light gold; full, rich good length, dry, oaky, spicy finish. December 2004. Great wine ***** M.B. 12 bottles per lot
