Beschreibung:

Lot Description: Popular Continental Wireless Receivers: including PYE PE98U-LW three band receiver in maroon and cream bakelite case; a Figaro 1-1/3A three band receiver in maroon and dark cream fretted grille case; a Radiomarelli Italian 120 circa 1950, with in-line resistance block two band receiver in curved brown bakelite case with cream knobs; a Magnodine 5 band shortwave receiver in curved maroon fretted case; a French Philips BF101-U, with sunburst Perspex speaker fret surrounding dial, three bands, in cream bakelite case. (5) Footnote - The infamous in-line resistance block was used to lower the mains voltage before getting to the set, in order to limit the heat and save space inside. But invariably, this block was in contact with the carpet on the floor, sometimes getting so hot it left a burn mark. The Radiomarelli set is clearly based on the much-loved British Murphy A100 'Handbag' radio - an example of which is also in this section. Condition Report: ARR: Categories: Radios & Gramophones
