David Bachrach, photographer, acquired the plate after photographing President Rutherford B. Hayes. David Bachrach, his son Louis Bachrach, his grandsons, Fabian and Bradford Bachrach and his great grandsons Fabian Jr. and Robert Bachrach owned a prestigious photography business beginning in 1864. Throughout the years, the Bachrach's have photographed every president of the United States since 1864, including Lincoln at his Gettysburg address.
