A note on the back of the frame indicates that the sitter is Sarah Rathbone Shepherd, wife of Howell Shepherd and mother of Lottie Shepherd Carrington. Sarah Rathbone Shepherd was born in 1797 and lived in upper New York State. She died in 1888. Her husband, Howell Shepherd, lived from 1801 to 1877. In period wood and gilt frame; 22" x 27" (w/o frame), 28" x 33" (w/frame). Provenance: Ex Collection the Honorable David A. Nelson Condition: Frame with fillet liner has some general usage wear.
