Viola Baxter was Pound's fiancée in the early years of the century (cf. lot 774, her copy of A lume spento ), and her notes in this copy comprise: brief personal details about Pound on the verso of the half-title; a transcription of 'Envoi (1919)' on the verso of the portrait; pencilled annotations on the text. The glosses to the text (some of which are in shorthand) include translations of a German epigraph and the entirety of 'Dans un Omnibus de Londres' into English, underline passages, and add various notes, some dated 1929.
