POUND, Ezra. Lustra . [London: William Clowes and Sons, Limited for Elkin Mathews, 1916]. 8° (199 x 138mm). Portrait frontispiece after Alvin Langdon Coburn (Occasional light marking, some spotting.) Original light brown cloth, lettered in blue on the upper board and spine (a little scuffed and marked, extremities rubbed and bumped). Provenance : Violet Baxter Jordan ( née Viola Scott Baxter, 1887-1973, manuscript annotations throughout)--J. Howard Woolmer Rare Books (loosely-inserted bookseller's invoice dated 17 February 1984). FIRST EDITION, NO. 44 OF 200 COPIES. VIOLA BAXTER'S ANNOTATED COPY. Viola Baxter was Pound's fiancée in the early years of the century (cf. lot 774, her copy of A lume spento ), and her notes in this copy comprise: brief personal details about Pound on the verso of the half-title; a transcription of 'Envoi (1919)' on the verso of the portrait; pencilled annotations on the text. The glosses to the text (some of which are in shorthand) include translations of a German epigraph and the entirety of 'Dans un Omnibus de Londres' into English, underline passages, and add various notes, some dated 1929.
