Proof V.R. 1d. black, a horizontal strip of eleven lettered NB-NL with selvedge at right showing inscription "Back be careful not" , NB, ND, NF, NH, NJ and NL were coated with white of egg and then all the stamps in the strip were cancelled by very fine complete strikes of the red Maltese Cross, the reverse of the strip is inscribed in ink "White of Egg" and "the alternate stamp will come off." which alludes to the fact that the cancellations were lying on top of the egg white and both would be removed by simply washing with a solution of soap and water; five with vertical creases and one of these with minor defect but in no way detracting from the beautiful appearance of this stunning exhibition item.
