Property from a Private Collection
School of Lorraine, 17th CenturySaint Apollonia
oil on canvasunframed: 40 x 33 cm.; 15¾ x 13 in.framed: 55 x 47.4 cm.; 21⅝ x 18⅝ in.Condition reportThe canvas is lined and the paint surface is stable. There appears to be a repair, probably enacted during an old relining, in the top margin. The colouring and paint surface appears to be rather well preserved, with only minor retouching visible along the aforementioned damage and in areas of the craquelure in the flesh. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals professional retouching throughout, focused in upper and lower margins (including the aforementioned repair in the top), in the drapery and in the fleshtones of the saint. Overall, the painting presents well and is in moderate condition.
