Property from the Estate of a Private Collector, New YorkEdgar Brandt"La Tentation" Floor Lamp
circa 1920-1926patinated bronze, molded glass66 in. (167.6 cm) high17¾ in. (43.8 cm) diameterCondition reportOverall in very good condition. The patinated bronze presents with some very minor surface irregularities inherent to the medium and its casting, as well as scattered surface scratches, minor abrasions and rubbing to the patina consistent with gentle use. The base presents with a minute pinhole to the bronze along the coil of the snake tail, measuring approximately ⅛ in. and likely inherent to production. The snake tongue presents with a few minute indentations revealing the lustrous bronze undersurface, not visually distracting. The bronze presents with traces of oxidation, occasional discolorations and light surface soiling particularly concentrated to the recessed contours of the design and consistent with age. The later glass shade presents with scattered minor air bubbles, particulate inclusions, and surface irregularities inherent in the making and not visually distracting. The interior of the shade presents with several more pronounced open air bubbles, inherent to production and not visually distracting when the shade is assembled to the base. The glass presents with faint scattered scratches, scuffing and minor abrasions resulting from contact with the metal, not visually distracting when the shade is assembled to the base. The interior of the shade with light surface soiling. Sotheby's does not guarantee electrical components and recommends having all wiring inspected by a licensed electrician.
