Property from the Sporting and Travel Library of Arnold "Jake" JohnsonLEE, C[HARLES]. G.R.A collection of eight manuscript travel journals. Various place, Ca. 1892 8 manuscript volumes (from 6 1/4 x 3 1/2 in.; 160 x 90 mm, to 6 3/4 x 4 1/4 in.; 175 x 110 mm). Ruled paper written recto and verso primarily in pencil and occasionally in ink, final volume "Asia Minor | 1902", appears to be in two hands; occasional spotting and minor soiling, some toning. Various bindings, five of which full textured black morocco covered boards, spines gilt lettered, marbled endpapers and edges; extremities rubbed. One bound in full red morocco, spine gilt lettered, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt; minor rubbing to extremities. One brown calf wallet with notebook inserted, interior gilt lettered; rubbing to extremities. One cream reverse sheep, gilt lettered red morocco label to spine, all edges gilt; rubbing and soiling to extremities. With accompanying material, to include address books, letters, and an annotated map. Housed together in two custom slipcases. Group lots not subject to return. "I am writing this from what is called here the summit...that is to say the town by which one passes near the main Range of the Rocky Mountains..." This series of journals includes: "The Rockies. 1892", "Algeria. 1895", "The Pyrenees. 1896", "Algeria. 1897", "Sardinia. 1898", "Asia Minor | 1898-1900", "Asia Minor |1902", and one untitled notebook. Charles G. R. Lee was a member of the London stock exchange.
