PU RU (1896-1963)
PU RU (1896-1963) Pines in the Mountain Ranges Scroll, mounted and framed, ink and colour on paper 92 x 183.5 cm. (36 x 72 1/4 in.) Inscribed with a poem and signed, with one seal of the artist Dated summer, xinchou year (1961) Pu Ru, a descendent of Qing dynasty royalty, was educated by traditional and rigid methods when he was young, forming the foundation of his education as well as his personality. Pu Ru developed a deep and thorough understanding of Chinese art and culture through the study of key artists from the Tang to the Qing dynasty - in his landscape works we see tight composition and the strength of his brush as the ink is transferred onto paper. There are few composition's of Pu Ru's landscape painting, where hills and dense forests are painted meticulously exuding an air of elegance and restraint.
