Moscow: August Semen Press at the Imperial Medical-Surgical Academy, 1827. 12° (169 x 101mm). Woodcut vignette on title. (Lacks final blank, slightly spotted.) Contemporary calf, covers with blind roll-tool and gilt fillet border, spine with gilt decorations, new endpapers. FIRST EDITION. One of two works by the author published during his life-time anonymously (the other was The Tales of Belkin , this work appeared before 10 May 1827 in an edition of possibly 1,200 copies; however during his life-time it was considered a great rarity.
