PYNE, William Henry (1769-1843). The History of the Royal Residences. London: L.Harrison for A.Dry, 1819 [pre-publication date watermarks]. 3 volumes, large 4° (400 x 320mm). Three letterpress titles, seven section titles. 100 hand-coloured plates by T.Sutherland, R.Reeve, D.Havell and others after J.Stephanoff, W.Westall, C.Wild and others. (Occasional very light spotting.) Contemporary red straight-grained morocco, covers with wide decorative border tooled in gilt and blind with fillets and roll-tools surrounding a central Gothic panel, spine in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in two, the others with repeat overall decoration, g.e. (extremities scuffed, joints with slight splits). A FINE COPY OF THE LARGE-PAPER ISSUE OF THE FIRST EDITION. The plates inlclude 25 views of Windsor, 6 of Frogmore, 13 of Hampton Court, 11 of Buckingham Palace, 13 of Kensington Palace, 8 of St.James's and 23 of Carlton House. Cf.
