2 volumes. [4], 279 & 272 pp. (12mo), 14x8½ cm. (5½x3½), contemporary sheep, red leather labels, gilt rules and lettering. One of two American editions published in 1810, priority not known. A collection of 36 tales written in the manner of Maria Edgeworth's popular Tales of Fashionable Life (1809), but on topics with somewhat more Gothic elements: castles, conspiracies, robbers, a baroness overcomes three murderers with her charm and persuasion, etc. The first London edition was also published in 1810. Neither American edition is in American Bibliography; OCLC records three copies with this Philadelphia imprint (AAS, Rutgers & LCP), and one with a New York Inskeep & Bradford imprint (Harvard); cf. Garside, Raven & Schöwerling, The English Novel, 1770-1829, 1810: 18, for the first English edition.
