Beschreibung:

approximately 12 x 17.5" printed in English on coarse brown paper under the auspices of the A.E.F. four days before the actual fighting ceased. An official but premature bulletin proclaiming the "WAR IS OVER" with dateline Pauillac, France November 7, 1918. The sub-head from Paris states, "It was offically announced here today that an armistice had been signed at the front by Marshall Foch, Commander in chief of the Allied Armies, and the German peace delegation at 2 p.m. today." In fact, negotiations at that hour were still ongoing, stymied by the Germans over what to do with Kaiser Wilhelm. Beset by anarchy on the homefront and outright mutiny in the Navy, the beleaguered Emperor was forced to abdicate on November 9, 1918, when the German Army, the house of Hohenzollern's premier institution, could no longer guarantee its support for the monarchy. The next day Wilhelm went into exile in Holland and died in June 1941. Condition: Broadside soiled, still G+, with foldlines and ratty bottom edge, no tears.
