Beschreibung:

A rare and poignant piece of history - a relic pocket watch reputedly from crashed British Airship / Zeppelin R101. The pocket watch in relic condition, appearing incomplete and burned. Accompanied by a note which reads ' R101 Airship Pocket Watch - to whom it may concern, this badly burnt pocket watch was found at the R101 crash site in Beauvais, France, on 23rd January 1983 in wasteland near the monument of the ill fated crash site. Found in shallow woodland dirt ', and then signed. Interesting piece of history. R101 was one of a pair of British rigid airships completed in 1929 as part of a British government programme to develop civil airships capable of service on long-distance routes within the British Empire. It was designed and built by an Air Ministry-appointed team and was effectively in competition with the government-funded but privately designed and built R100. When built, it was the world's largest flying craft at 731ft in length, and it was not surpassed by another hydrogen-filled rigid airship until the Hindenburg flew seven years late r.
