Beschreibung:

Renaissance Style Painted and Parcel Gilt Domed Coffer The hinged top centered by a coat of arms flanked by decorative motifs with flowers and scrolls, the central panel possibly depicting a wedding scene, with engaged pilasters to the sides and similarly decorated panels, above a frieze with a motto, the paneled sides fitted with iron twist handles backed by painted coats of arms, raised on a molded base. Height 27 1/2 inches (69.8 cm), width 47 inches (1.19 m), depth 19 1/2 inches (49.5 cm). This is a copy after two panels from the Adimari Cassone, a chest now in the Accademia in Florence. The scene depicts the marriage between Boccaccio Adimari and Lisa Ricasoli, celebrated in 1420, or most likely the Martelli-Adimari union which was celebrated twenty years later. The Adimari Cassone is believed to have been painted by Giovani di Ser Giovanni Guidi (called Lo Scheggia), who was Masaccio's young brother. C
Distressed condition commensurate with its age, restorations and replacements to decoration throughout, age cracks, chips, losses, molded base probably later
