Title: Report of the Committee of Internal Health on the Asiatic Cholera, Together with a Report of the City Physician on the Cholera Hospital Author: Place: Boston Publisher: J.H. Eastburn Date: 1849 Description: 180, [2] pp. Several woodcut illustrations within, folding map at rear. (8vo) original printed wrappers. First Edition. The map, with a dot marking the location of each case of cholera in Boston during the outbreak of 1849, is among the earliest of such maps, predating by five years Jon Snow's similar mapping of the Cholera outbreak in London. A landmark in medical topography. The report hints at the unsanitary conditions with sewage and water distribution that led to the outbreak but falls short of identifying the source. Front wrapper dated 1850, title page dated 1849. OCLC locates only 7 copies, no copies found currently in the trade, and no recent auction records. Scarce. Sabin 6634. Lot Amendments Condition: Wrappers lightly worn; some foxing; very good. Item number: 278082
