Batsford Ltd., 1936, colour and b/w plates, pictorial dustjacket designed by Rex Whistler over red cloth pictorial gilt, top-edge stained red, 4to, [1] Provenance: Presented to Edith Olivier MBE (1872-1948), author and artistic hostess, by Rex Whistler (1904-1944) for Christmas 1936, the front endpaper uniquely illustrated by R.W. in pen and ink with a Picturesque conversation piece and inscribed in manuscript: For darling Edith/with very great love/from Rex/Christmas 1936. Chipped and worn dust jacket, the spine with fading, and some bumped edges. The cloth with some minor shelf wear, rubbing and bumps. Slight splitting to butter but text block tight in binding with little or no wiggle. Expected light toning, more pronounced within the prelims. Whistler illustrated inscription good. The slightest of bowing twist. Please see attached images.
