Floated above a silk matte, gilt framed under protective UV Plexiglas, overall 39.5x33.5 cm (15½x13¼"). A beautiful, original watercolor on vellum by master flower painter Pancrace Bessa (1772-1846), of flowers called "Roelle Ciliee". This was an original study for Mordant de Launay's Herbier Generale de L'Amateur, published 1810-27, which contained 574 color plates after Bessa's drawings. Bessa was a pupil of Pierre-Joseph Redouté. He became the drawing master and flower painter to the Duchesse de Berry. Label of W. Graham Arader, King of Prussia, PA on rear.
