Roman Inked Inscribed Tablet Group 4th-6th century AD A bifacial wooden tablet group comprising: a subrectangular panel split into two sections, text to both faces, Side A with five lines of cursive Greek script in a dark brown ink between ruled red guidelines; Side B with fifteen lines of text and fillers between inked guidelines; plus a trapezoidal panel with smoothed surfaces with no visible signs of text remaining; possibly from Late Roman Egypt. 237 grams total, 22-28cm (8 3/4 - 11"). Fair condition; inscribed panel in two components. [3] Provenance From the Surain family collection, Belgium; formerly the property of Monsieur Alain Sfez, a Belgian collector; acquired by gift from his father Albert Sfez, 1965; acquired by Albert in the early 1950s; accompanied by seven old photographs and a copy of a provenance declaration by Alain Claude Sfez.
