ROOSEVELT, Franklin D. Photograph signed ("Franklin D. Roosevelt") as President, also signed by Eleanor Roosevelt, Hyde Park, N.Y.: Associated Press photo (stamp on verso), Christmas, 1941. 8 x 9 15/16 in., "Christmas 1941" neatly written in another hand, evidence of mounting on verso, otherwise in fine condition. A well-known image of FDR and Eleanor, depicting them in a relaxed mood, seated at a table, Eleanor knitting and the President reading a book. This reassuringly domestic image was widely circulated in the weeks following the shock of America's entrance into World War II. An example signed by only by the President was part of the Roosevelt family collections (sale, Christie's, 14 February 2001, lot 179, $4500).
