MEYER (1858-1919), Washington, D.C., 25 February 1909. 2 pages, 8vo, on two sheets of White House stationery, neatly attached at central fold. Fine. PRESIDENT TO POSTMASTER GENERAL. A boldly penned note in which Roosevelt intervenes "in the case of Postmaster White," and asks "why should we not take action against the inspector who, as it now appears falsely recommended White for removal for dishonesty? His action rendered injustice undeniable either to White or Hewquit." Von L. Mayer from Massachusetts, also served in the Taft administration as Secretary of the Navy.
