Wheeler, Oyster Bay, New York, 8 September 1905, 1 page, 4to, integral blank, White House stationery , on U.S. policy towards Chinese immigration: "Your letter was interesting from several standpoints...I agree with you that the presumption must be that where Chinese students are not sent to America it is because of our foolish policy toward them..." -- ROOSEVELT. Typed letter signed as President, to the same, Washington, D.C., 11 May 1904, 1½ pages, 4to, White House stationery, with a few emendations in TR's hand, a fine letter on French literature, his reading and the classics: "Speaking from the standpoint of utterly superficial knowledge...I think it perfectly possible that the Greek poet or poets had used Phoenician recitals of trading voyages...as giving material for the framework of certain incidents...I have been reading an interesting Italian book on the Indo-Europeans. As I have never studied Italian I have read it very slowly...Aryan is a linguistic and not a biological term..." -- ROOSEVELT.
