Arethusa, 23 Augt. 1883) complete with buckle suspender, old repair to suspension, otherwise about very fine Footnote On 25 September 1883, Albert T. Harris, 16, and Richard Roberts, 15 1/2, both of the Training Ship 'Arethusa', were each awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Lifesaving Medal for saving their shipmate Henry Lewis 16 1/2, from drowning in the River Thames, near Greenhithe on 23 August 1883. At about noon Lewis fell into the river as he was getting out of a boat. He was immediately carried away by the strong current. Harris and Roberts jumped overboard at great personal risk and succeeded in reaching the victim. They supported him in the water until a boat came to their assistance. Each of the boys was recommended for the award by Captain Willay, Royal Navy.
