RUGBY SCHOOL, 1858 -- A 1p. a.l.s. from J. Temple to an unnamed correspondent, dated Short House, Rugby, 8 Feb. 1858, saying he will mind his request about ' Hart ' and continuing: ' I am in the midst of preparations of various kinds; buying furniture, answering endless applications; refusing Papas the most absurd requests ... I get daily letters from all sorts of people proposing every species of impossibility. One man writes from Dublin wanting to put his son here if I will allow him to be exempt from learning Latin and Greek. Another is modest enough to demand no more than the inversion of time allotted to clasics and mathematics respectively. Another only asks that I shall promise never to let his big boy be out of sight of one of the masters... '; and a collection of unrelated correspondence, including a.l.s. by Joanna Baillie, John Bright, John Baring Gould, Joseph Jekyll, E.B. Pusey. (a lot)
