RUSSIAN LITERATURE – Group of 19 books on Russian literary figures and their patrons, from Mrs. Wrightsman’s personal library. Mostly 20th century. 19 volumes, various sizes. Many in publisher’s bindings, some with original dust jackets and archival boxes. Includes texts in English and French. St. Petersburg boasts some of the best preserved palaces and royal collections in the world, renowned for their stylistic synthesis. Mrs. Wrightsman sought to understand not only the visual history of Russian decorative arts and architecture, but also the literary and social history of Tsardom, Empire and, eventually, revolutionary Union. This group includes translated poetry from Pushkin and Lermontov, translated letters between Catherine and Grigory III, as well as the Romanov diaries.
