Beschreibung:

Russian Silver Gilt and Cloisonne Enameled Silver and Painted Wood Icon of Saint Nicholas 19th Century Of rectangular form, mounted with an oklad including a foliate decorated cloisonne halo, depicting the saint in three-quarter profile, dressed in an ornate robe and holding an open book with verse. Height 12 1/2 inches, width 11 inches. C
there are worm holes and curviture to the wood panel; there is a drill hole (for hanging) located at the top on the reverse side; there are split lines running down in a vertical direction in the painted areas; crazing to the figure's forehead; appears to have some touched up areas of overpaint; the inner band of the cloisonne halo (with the cobalt ground) appears to be in good condition; the outer halo band has some losses and damage and also the "ground" area appears to be painted with a faint wash, rather than having thick enameling like in the foliate motif areas; the silver cover was not removed, however, the wood panel appears to be fully painted; hallmarks appear on the underside of the silver cover and on the right facing side of the halo
