Set of Sixteen Regency Mahogany Dining Chairs Twelve chairs early 19th century Including two armchairs, each armchair with drapery-swagged toprail above a padded drop-in seat with reeded apron flanked by scrolled arms and raised on molded sabre legs. Height of armchair 34 1/2 inches (87.6 cm), width 22 inches (55.8 cm), depth of seat 18 inches (45.7 cm); height of side chair 34 1/2 inches (87.6 cm), width 19 inches (48.2 cm), depth of seat 17 inches (43.2 cm). Provenance: George Subkoff Antiques, Westport, Connecticut. The present chairs are after a design in 'London chair-Makers Book of Prices, for Workmanship,' T. Sorrell, Committee of Chair Manufacturers, London 1807, pl. 2. C Property from a Private Collection, Southampton, New York
Four later chairs: one armchair and three side chairs; previous restorations thoughout, fair condition commensurate with age and use, with repaired breaks, losses and replacements especially at joints of stiles and seat rails, old marks and scratches, scuffs to legs and feet.
