The present lot includes a silver filigree amulet of heart-shaped form with the Hebrew word Shaddai embossed on the front; a pair of baby satin slippers embroidered in red, yellow, and silver threads; and a swaddling cloth delicately embroidered with the name Virginia Coen Ara. Below the name is the emblem of the Coen Ara family, who lived in Trieste. The imagery is based on both parts of their name: for Coen, a pair of hands raised in the formation used during the priestly benediction; for Ara, which means “altar” in Latin, a flaming, pyramid-shaped altar.
